Juarez Updates

May 2007 Update

Construction

  • 7 homes were built for 7 families! Please see our website for detailed information on all the families at www.missionsministries.org
  • The 5,000 square foot, 2-story youth center at Pastor Jesus' church was built after years of praying and planning and months of negotiations with customs officials in Mexico. The first event in the center was a wedding reception for Samuel, Pastor Jesus' oldest son.

Medical

  • Menlo Park Presbyterian Church's largest medical team to date served, bringing five medical doctors and support staff. They treated 277 patients in two days! They also performed three surgical procedures including: removal of lead fragments from a 10-day old gunshot wound, removal of a growth inside a women's finger that was restricting movement by 80% and restoring complete mobility and a removal of a small mass on a woman's face. Jenny also installed her first stitches on a head wound and removed all the stitches from the patients except for the gunshot patient.  Jeff and Jenny were glad the 20-year old male robbery suspect did not return!
  • Dr Enriquez's medical team came the next day after Menlo Park left and treated 92 patients that day.  With Menlo Park and Dr. Enriquez's visits combined, a total of 369 patients were treated in three days!
  • The second full service dental team came in May from Cherry Hills Community church. They were small but mighty. The three women assisting the dentist had NO prior dental experience, except as patients. God molded this small team of four into a precision dental team before the end of the first day. The second morning they preformed all the preparation and clean up required so that the dentist could focus only on repairing and removing teeth. Two of the dental technicians completely removed teeth by the end of the second day. Susie, Leo's wife had her smile beautifully restored as three large dark cavities were repaired in her front two top teeth. Jeff walked her to a mirror in an exam room on the other side of the clinic, and was very deeply touched as tears streamed from both of her eyes as she saw her teeth the way God intended them to be. We will get a mirror for the dental office so the dental team can share those blessings in the future.  Many others had their teeth restored as well.

Outreach

  • Hundreds of Mexican nationals were loved and fed through outreaches at local churches. Most of the feeding outreaches with the teams are in the early afternoons.  The first feeding outreach was held after a church service at Pastor Jesus' church.  Although the service ran late, more and more people, including some new ones, came to the church, sat through the service and were served a great meal.
  • A team from Challenge School in Denver painted the second building at the local government primary school.
  • Bandimere Speedway sponsored a racing event "Fire and Thunder" in May, and collected five large boxes of school supplies for the school children of Juarez during the event!
  • A Spanish Pastor joined a team with Menlo Park and conducted a Pastor training session with our Pastors.

Juarez News

  • The Texas legislature recently voted to re-open the El Paso Asarco smelter plant. The mayors of Juarez, El Paso, and Sunland Park met on the bank of the Rio Grande to jointly unite to stop Asarco from re-opening their plant.
  • Since the recent Presidential election this spring, no one has been evicted by the government for failure to prove property ownership in Kilometer 30.  This was partly due to most government and city officials being paid for an un-disclosed period of time while there was no money for payroll during the transition of officials and the new President.

Jeff and Jenny

  • Jeff and Jenny started their third year at the Juarez Mission Center.
  • Jeff and Jenny will be in Colorado the week of Father's day to see friends and work on financial support, maybe get a 2nd opinion on Jenny's ear problem, and hopefully rest a little bit.  Their local cell phone number is 720-838-4417. They will be at Cherry Hills Community Church on Father's day, Sunday morning,

Bill

  • Bill and Alex are doing great.  Bill is eating everything Alex cooks for him and they are both very happy!

 Juarez, brief overview 2007 YTD

  • 36 new homes have been built.
  • 759 team members have blessed and been blessed in our missions outreach center.
  • 9 medical teams have come, prayed for and healed the sick in our clinic.

Upcoming Needs

  • Plans are just getting underway to assist 100 primary school children with $100 scholarships for school next year.
  • An autoclave is still needed for the clinic.  A good used one is available for $1,200. If you have access to one that you could donate, please let us know.
