Missions Ministries

Ed founded Missions Ministries in 1992 and dedicated the last twenty years to serving the Mexican people of Juarez, Mexico.

“In 1988 Carol and I attended a Discover the World class at Cherry Hills Community Church. Several short-term mission trips were offered at the end of the class. Carol insisted I go on a trip to Mexico. I was willing to go anywhere but Mexico. But my plan was not God's plan. I reluctantly went to Mexico and fell in love with the people. My plan was to serve in Mexico part time until I retired at 55, and then I would minister full time.

God wanted me sooner and He orchestrated my circumstances in unexpected and even painful ways, and very soon I was available full time. In the last 20 years God has raised up thousands of people to travel to Mexico to serve the physical and spiritual needs of the poor in the outlying colonias of Juarez. These teams became the answer to the prayers of the people we serve. In return the Americans who have served have been blessed with purpose and spiritual growth. Glory and praise to our Father in heaven.

We will continue to follow our Lord's direction as Missions Ministries moves forward in the 21st century.”

“Several years ago a dear friend of our family, Scott Matthias, invited my son Luke to join him, and his son, on a Missions Ministries trip to build a house in Juarez.  Luke had a great time.  He wouldn't stop talking about it.  In the course of the next few years, due to Scott's influence, we as the Vineyard church community have taken several teams to Juarez.  My kids have joined team members from all walks of life, young and old, construction savvy and 'not-so-savvy' so that together we can give a new lease of life to families in need.  Every person that I have been with has informed me that the trip was a blast – "Better than vacation"; "Life changing"; "When can we go again?"...  When you demonstrate the love of Jesus in practical ways lives are changed.  That's what Missions Ministries is all about.  I joined the Board because I believe in the mission – to share with the Mexican people that there is a God in heaven who wants them to know how much He loves them.”

John is in insurance and claim management and has been a member of the board since June of 2006.

“Our family's first experience with Missions Ministries was when my wife Kerrie boldly went on a mission trip by herself. She loved it and I followed her lead the next year. Since that time, we have enjoyed building homes, a library and have been a part of many community outreaches as a couple and with our boys. Missions Ministries has a great impact on each family who receives a home. It has a great impact on the community through outreach, programs and the clinic. I cherish the perspective and blessing God brings to my family through Missions Ministries. It is my pleasure to be associated with the Board and to serve the people of Juarez.”

jvarnell@copic.com

Physician Risk Manager, Risk Management. Member of the board since 2002.

“The Varnell family first traveled to Juarez with Missions Ministries in March of 1994 with several other families. We were so impacted by the faith and graciousness of the Mexican people in the colonias that we decided to make the ministry our primary mission focus going forward. We have since been back to Juarez in various capacities many times, both to build houses as well as work in the medical clinic. What we most look forward to each year is the renewal of friendships we have made over the years in Juarez, and to see the progress of the ministry within the community due to continual presence and God's grace.

I have been a Board member of Missions Ministries since 2002, with the primary goal of ensuring that the clinic has adequate supplies and resources for the teams to treat patients when they come down. Our family continues to be blessed by this ministry more than we could ever hope to be a blessing for those we serve.”

"I first went to Juarez in 2005 with a short term group from CHCC. It was on that trip that the LORD revealed his plan for me. HE uses all of us in different ways. In my case I was moved so deeply by the incredible need that I was immediately convicted. I am blessed to serve in whatever way HE chooses. What's huge about Juarez, and the whole world, is that there is so much need and I can't stress enough what we as God's people can do. What I've learned from God is that we all have hidden talents. If we just relax, he'll let them blossom and we can slide into whatever it is he wants us to do. "

"My husband Sam and I have been on many mission trips but our first to Juarez was in 2005 on a women's and children's medical team. Sam and I were blessed beyond measure by the Mexican people there. They have absolute and complete faith in the power of God in the midst of their extreme poverty. We heard numerous times how they pray for US! Shouldn't it be the other way around? We were so very humbled by the experience. It is an honor to serve Missions Ministries and the people of Juarez. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to do so."
